Personal Gear (1 major, 4 minor) -------------------------------- Hearing aid - major: A square device about 20 cubic inches, with a small stalk on one side. It sticks into Magellan's ear, though it's still horribly visible. The device looks a lot like a small bird nesting in his hair. Monkey Wrench(See stats below) - minor: A four-foot pipe wrench. It's red, and stained with grease and oil. Toolbelt - minor: A workman's leather toolbelt, dangling with all sorts of tools, gadgets and hydrospanners. Toolbox - minor: A dinged up steel toolbox filled with everything a mechanic/engineer could need. Faded lettering can be seen on the box, but it's impossible to tell what it reads. Electric Coffee Pot - minor: Steel coffee pot with a heating element stuck on the bottom. Looks rather stylish, actually. As a young child, he was apprenticed to a blacksmith. He began with simple tasks such as plows, knives, and other tools. It was readily apparent that while Magellan showed an aptitude for metal, he was not going to become a blacksmith easily. After years of hard working, Magellan graduated to harder tasks - gears and machinery. It was not long until both Magellan and his master realized that the boy's time was better spent working on machines than merely smithing. Years passed. Magellan's master died, and Magellan partnered with another of his master's apprentices, though by then both of them had become journeymen. The young man was named Otto Jesalkavich, and the business thrived. With the advent of steam mecha, the business grew even more. Magellan had a natural aptitude for these hulking beasts, and anything he could design, Otto could make. Magellan began toying with electricity and circuitry in his spare time, designing and building hundreds of tiny toys until he lost interest and gave them away to the urchins in the streets outside. While working on a particularly large piece of arm for a mecha, a weld failed and a chunk of steel landed on Otto, killing him instantly. Magellan was unable to find anyone else with Otto's skill or desire to work with metal, so he reluctantly closed up the shop, picked up his life's savings, and set out to wander the country for a while. The Drogg family is immense. Magellan has 12 siblings, 5 of them boys, 7 of them girls. Magellan is the middle child, being the 7th to be born. His father is one of another 13 children, although his mother is an only child. However, Magellan actually does not know where any of his siblings, or indeed his parents, are currently living. It is custom in the Drogg household for the family to move after apprenticing a child - they are then forced to learn the ways of the world on their own. Thusly, Magellan does not know of any siblings born after his apprenticeship began, so 13 is most likely lower than the real number. Despite Magellan's abandonment, he has done quite well for himself. He's not wealthy by any means, but he always seems to find something to bring in a little more spending money. Magellan has a fondness for coffee, as black as he can get it. He's not one for music, seeing as how he's become quite hard of hearing from many years with the pounding of the hammer and the squealing and hissing of mechs. He enjoys paintings, though, and often stops at local galleries to see how styles are progressing. Not, of course, that he knows anything about art at all. But he knows what he likes.
