She was going to marry a rich and powerful man and be a beautiful and dutiful wife to him. They would live in a large house with rustic fences and an open porch from which they could sit and look out over their fields when it was raining. Servants would care for their every need. They would vacation to far-off places like Vienna and Rome every month or two. They would also ride horses whenever a prince or baron decided to drop by for a visit. Which would be often. She was only eleven, though, so some changes could possibly happen. The plan was ruined, however, when a thief accosted her family (her father was a moderately successful farmer) was on the way to town. Her father was killed from a blow to the head, and, upon discovering their lack of valuables, the thief instead attempted to steal Abby's mother. When Abby wouldn't leave her mother's side, the man stabbed her in the chest and kicked her away. He rode his horse over her as he left. She would have died and been forgotten, but for a passing engineer, who took her in and did his best to heal her. However, the man's abilty to work wonders on humans left something to be desired, so he went with the next best thing: replacing Abby's damaged body parts with mechanical substitutes. He may have replaced a little extra, too. When Abby came back to consciousness, about five years later, she had only a vague recollection of what had happened. The kindly engineer explained it as best he could, leading Abby to assume both her parents had died. When she found out what had happened to her, though, she was horrified. Her family had raised her with strong ideals about the purity of the body. That she could have been combined with machinery makes her an abomination. Because of this, Abby regards herself as a freak and a monster. She assumes that everyone will think of her as she thinks of herself, and will not want to associate with her. In truth, she is still quite attractive (even if she has a few less curves than before) and a number of people even adore her. She has quite a following of fans, who are amazed at how she "works". Abby's assumption is that these people really hate her and want to destroy her.
